Laughable...

The other day I stepped into a local eye glass shop and was greeted by a 'young' fellow who informed me that my current glasses were a bit dated.  I told him I bought the glasses at that same shop 5 years earlier AND they came with magnetic sunglass attachments.

He laughed and said 'we don't do clip-ons'...I said 'well you did 5 years ago'.  Then he proceeded to pull out frames that are supposedly 'in style' and I started trying them on.

Well...let's just say I was outright laughing because they were the style of frames I wore in the 9th grade and looking back at those photos I think my glasses were hideous.

The sale guy says 'oh, those are so you...you must walk out with those ones'...the ones in the photo to the right.  So I said 'please figure out the cost and I will "think" about purchasing them (maybe)'.

So he does his figuring and shows me a total of $1,065 - I just about fell out of the chair.  I was really laughing at this point.  So I excused myself right out of the store and thought...man, I am just going to keep on wearing my 'dated' glasses and clip-ons for awhile longer.

Happy Friday!

PS.  I promise to show a sewing blog in my next post.

New Friend

Thru the blogging world I met a new friend...come to find out she lived in Oregon many years ago...graduated from South High, where I worked and my daughter now goes.  So we started commenting on each other's blogs and staying in touch that way...seeing as she is now living in Tunisia I never dreamed we would meet.  But she came for a visit and today we met for the first time.

Oh, how fun to meet someone you instantly feel you are 'kindred spirits' with.  (Gotta love Anne of Green Gable quotes).

Nadia brought some beautiful sewing projects she is working on and I was in love with them all.  She does beautiful quilting and embroidery...where she lives she makes do with 'found' fabric..there are no big fancy quilt shops around the corner.  Making do with what you have means beautiful and unique works of art.
You can visit her blog at MulticoloredPieces and see her handiwork.

Thank you, Nadia for stopping to visit me...
it was a delight.

Before/After

i'm so thrilled to show off my new shelves...
thanks to my wonderful father-in-law who installed them for me.
here is a peak before....it wasn't very pretty at all...in fact, down right messy

i moved the brown shelves off the desk and purchased a shelving unit at Lowe's
i'm so happy with the results
now i can actually use my table....yay!
my favorie item on the shelves is the picture...
my daughter painted it at school...i think it's beautiful and inspiring...

Eeeeek!!

i want you to look at the picture that i posted earlier today (just scroll down a bit)...

do you see the squirt bottle in the upper right corner by the iron?

well......IT'S BLEACH!  ACH!

and thinking it was spray starch (because that's what the bottle says) i sprayed it on my fabric while i was ironing

thank goodness the fabric was duck cloth and it really didn't hurt it, but it could have been bad!

that will teach me NOT to leave bathroom cleaner on the ironing board

i guess that was my FRIDAY the 13th moment today :)

Friday the 13th...

i have never been superstitious about Friday the 13th until Friday, August 13th, 2011 when the diamond fell out of my wedding ring and i lost it some where either in my front lawn or at the pool...needless to say it was an awful day and now i'm a little leary when this day rolls around...
but i'm not dwelling on what might happen...i'm sewing and i'm happy.

i sat down to press the blocks i was working on and found that my ironing board was just about covered and i had no room to work.

and i thought...hey, i'll show my friends what a mess i make when i am creating.

happy friday to all!
have a super great weekend.

Sewing Machine Tote

inside fabric by one of my favorite designers Lotta Jansdotter

this bag i call the Sewing Machine Tote because that's just what it can do...tote a sewing machine

it's very large...and i've put a sturdy support in the bottom
it is washable which is always a plus
and...
the outside is made from...a painters drop cloth...found at the hardware store...the yardage came out to be $2 a yard...who can beat that?
the button was handmade by a gal that i work with...love those buttons
the sides of the bag can be unbuttoned to make the bag even bigger

Everyday Life and A Cute Bag too!

i love reading blogs, but sometimes they can be discouraging...
blogger's lives always look so much better, funner, and more exciting than my own.
(ps. this is why i don't like Facebook).
seems like i never see photo's of a living room that's 'lived' in, you know...a bit messy after being used for family movie night with lots of snacks and pillows and blankets strewn about the room, or a messy kitchen from being used to make the family the most delicious meal ever...i think you get the picture.

i would love to read blogs about humdrum, everyday lives...maybe we would all feel better to see that we are human and there will be many days when our homes are messy, and dinner is take-out, and the shower hasn't been cleaned in weeks,
and vacuuming...well, what's that?

anyway...
here's my mundane for the day...my lunch
well, to me is wasn't mundane, i mean i get really excited when i can buy lunch for under a buck...who can beat a $.99 baked potato from Wendy's? :)
and it was good...i might add.

after my delicious lunch, i finished this cute bag for my neice.
it will hold a coloring book, crayons, and the cute moose i got at Ikea.

Labels made by "Mommiemadeit"

i'm thrilled to show you the labels i just received in the mail.  i was floating around on Etsy.com and saw a wonderful label on a bag...i inquired and found out who made them.

i ordered some with my own design on them and here they are...
they are a clothing label made from cotton that is colorfast...i think they are beautiful and i can't wait to start using them in my bags.

to find out more visit mommiemadeit

happy sewing...

Block of the Month! by Cheryl Wall

in an earlier post i mentioned i was working on a Tumbling Block quilt...i needed to add more Civil War prints to my collection for the quilt so i visited a lovely little shop called 'Ladies of Liberty' in Independence, Oregon...
well...lets just say i bought more than just a few Civil War prints
(p.s. - hope my husband isn't reading this) ;)
anyhoo...i signed up for their block of the month.
this is the pattern - it's actually a book, "Welcome Home" by Cheryl Wall,
and the block of the month is the quilt on the cover
i am so impressed with this book.
the instructions are EXTREMELY easy to follow.

 here is Block #1
Block #2

here are a couple other patterns in the book...SO ADORABLE!

i have realized recently that when i started quilting 16 years ago...i LOVED the homespun fabrics, but over the years veered from them and went more modern, but now i'm finding myself going back to the 'country' look...i think i shall repaint my kitchen just for this quilt! :)
